Circumcision
Circumcision is the surgical procedure to remove excess foreskin around the head of the penis. Sixty-five percent of boys in the United States are circumcised electively as newborns. Circumcision is not a medically necessary procedure. Boys and adult men can be circumcised outside of birth and should consult their urologist to ensure minimal complications.
Urologists usually only suggest circumcision when a man or boy is experiencing recurrent health problems, such as inflammation of the head of the penis and difficulty retracting the foreskin. These health problems can improve with proper hygiene practices. However, circumcision is an option you can discuss with your urologists. Post-surgical risks for circumcision surgeries include infection and bleeding.
