How to dispose unused medication
If you stop using your medication or need to dispose for any other reason, please follow the FDA guidelines. Unfortunately, we cannot take back unused medication from patients. The FDA recommends that you combine oral drugs with a foul-tasting substance (like cat litter or used coffee grounds) and place in a seal plastic bag and dispose of this in your household trash. If a prescriber has prescribed narcotics for you at an outside pharmacy, the FDA recommends these be flushed down the toilet. This prevents children and pets from accidentally ingesting the drugs, which can be harmful or even fatal.
For further information regarding safe disposal, visit the FDA Disposal of Unused Medicines.
