Meeting Men Where They Are
Why Community Health Education Matters
Prostate cancer affects 1 in 8 men during their lifetime. For Black men, the risk is even higher—1 in 6 will be diagnosed, and mortality rates are nearly double. Closing these gaps and catching cancer early isn't something that only happens inside an exam room. It happens out in our communities.
In a recent article published by Urology Times, UroPartners physician Dr. Justin Cohen shared a powerful message: to make a real difference in men's health, healthcare providers need to "meet men where they are."
Breaking Down Barriers to Care
For many individuals, visiting a doctor's office can feel intimidating, or busy schedules simply get in the way. By bringing health education and screenings directly into community spaces—such as places of worship, civic groups, local employers, and neighborhood events—we can make vital health conversations comfortable, approachable, and accessible.
Dr. Cohen emphasized that open conversations about PSA testing, early screening, and maintaining urological wellness empower men to take charge of their health before serious problems arise.
